Get To Know Me
What brings you joy?
The first thing I think of is being in nature. Being in nature has always been my happy place. Whether I am exploring a new location or in a place I have been to 30 times, it always brings me a sense of connectedness, serenity and joy. To me, nature has a very calming and restorative power. Frank Lloyd Wright said, “Study Nature, love Nature, stay close to Nature. It will never fail you.”
I also LOVE anything creative- specifically photography, painting, music and creating!
What do you love most about being a therapist?
Being a therapist is the most amazing job- if I can even call it a job. It feels like my calling and provides me with a great sense of purpose. When someone comes in and wants to improve, heal, change, or learn more about something, it feels really good to be a part of that. I also love being a psychological detective and solving problems with people. I use what I know from my training and experience and they use what they know about being an expert on themselves to figure it out together. It’s usually a fun, interesting, challenging experience every time. I like being able to form a healing environment for people. I enjoy providing a quiet oasis from the madness of modern life, where people can slow down, be thoughtful and introspective, feel and let their guard down, and be accepted for who they are while still challenged to work and change in healthy ways.
How did you decide to work with Eating Disorders?
I knew at the age of 16 yrs old, I would dedicate my life to helping others. I knew at some point in my journey I would work with people who like myself, battled with an Eating Disorder. I was able to find recovery, healing and peace through the help of mental health providers, so I wanted to do the same for others. Over the years working as a therapist, I was able to make my dream a reality and started specializing in Eating Disorders, working in many levels of care.
What is your clinical experience working with Eating Disorders?
I first worked with Eating Disorder clients while working for Alameda County in CA, providing in-home therapy services for individuals and their families. Then I worked as the Director for an Eating Disorder Residential program for many years, learning the in's and out's of intensive treatment for critically ill patients. I also was the Director of a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program for Eating Disorders. Before going into my own Private Practice, I worked along side leading Eating Disorder clinicians in a group practice specializing in the treatment of Eating Disorders.
